Sustainable Valentine’s Day gift ideas your loved one will adore
We’re approaching the most romantic day of the year – Valentine’s Day. A time when people around much of the world buy gifts for each other to say, “I love you”.
While there’s the usual chocolates, many people are now on the lookout for more sustainable gift ideas, which I, personally, am totally on board with. If this is something you’re keen to do this year but are unsure of where to begin when it comes to sustainable Valentine’s Day gifts, here are just a few ideas to get you started…
Recyclable Valentine’s Day cards
More and more of us are now concerned about recycling and buying items that are from recycled materials, which is incredible to see. This was really important to me, too, when I set up Charlotte Macey. So, all of the cards you find on my website are 100% recycled, FSC certified and sustainably printed in the UK. I also donate 10% of all card sales to Forestry England, to plant more trees. You can find my Valentine’s Day cards here.
Gift a plant
While a bunch of flowers is a lovely Valentine’s Day choice, it’s also pretty obvious – and your gift only really last a few days. What might not be quite so obvious is a plant. Not only are they lovely to have around the home, and last longer than a bunch of flowers, but they are also really great for wellbeing. Just having them around makes us that bit calmer. It’s like bringing the outdoors in.
There are, of course, tonnes of different types of plants to choose from, but why not pick one from a local, independent business where they really know their stuff? If you’re in travelling distance to Bristol, I definitely recommend checking out Mint Plants, run by a lady called Hayley, who is just the loveliest! And if you can’t get to her shop? No worries – they deliver too.
If you’ve really got your heart set on flowers, though, consider thinking outside the box. Instead of a one-off bunch of flowers, you could try a subscription, meaning your partner can receive a beautiful bunch each month (or however often you like). Another alternative to the traditional bunch of flowers is to gift embroidered flowers that will last much, much longer. I can recommend a few myself! Take a look here for cute inspo!
Gifts that are made to last
If you’re looking for a sustainable gift that will bring your loved one happiness for years to come, take a look at my embroidered linen pieces, all of which are made to last. From little heart eye pillows to blush pink zip pouches, there are some lovely present ideas to choose from. And the best bit is that the linen I use is sustainable, long-lasting and fully biodegradable. Plus, the whole flax plant is used in production, so nothing goes to waste. Win-win!
A blanket made for two
Is there anything more romantic than having a cosy night in together? If that’s your idea of bliss, why not make it even snugglier with a beautifully knitted blanket that’s big enough for two? If you haven’t laid your eyes on Lauren Aston Designs chunky giant knits before, you’re in for a treat, and the lovely neutral pink is just perfect for Valentine’s Day. Each luxurious blanket is handmade in Devon and makes a real WOW gift. Plus, it’s just an extra excuse to sit that bit closer together.
Carefully selected candles
Candles make for a perfect Valentine’s gift, as, not only do they fill your home with a gorgeous aroma, but they can also fill you with a sense of calm. And those cosy vibes we mentioned above – well they can be boosted even more with the warm glow of a candle nearby. When it comes to sustainability, my favourites are The Botanical Candle Co, who sell the most beautiful hand poured soy wax candles. Their ‘Winter Love’ gift box is especially great for this time of year – and makes for a super romantic atmosphere.
So, there you have it – a whole load of stunning Valentine’s Day gifts to choose from – and all sustainable! Still not sure what to get your loved one? Why not let them pick their own perfect sustainable gift? I’ve just added my very own Charlotte Macey gift cards to the website, giving your partner the chance to choose from a wide range of handmade homeware and accessories. That’ll really get you in their good books!
Happy Valentine’s Day shopping, folks!
